The FCV-38 can detect schools of fish in five directions simultaneously with its multi-beam system, providing information on the location of the fish relative to the vessel. Operators can adjust the beams in any direction within a 20-degree range through the menu settings. For five-beam transmission, users can activate or deactivate simultaneous transmission and adapt it to their needs by selecting one of three split-beam modes: Alternating transmission, Semi-simultaneous transmission, and Simultaneous transmission. The new Semi-simultaneous transmission mode reduces beam-to-beam interference, making seabed identification easier compared to simultaneous beam transmission. Transmission timing has been optimized to accelerate the beam cycle even with all five beams active.

Built-in motion sensor provides a stabilized target presentation in rough sea conditions: Pitching and rolling can adversely affect both the sounding image and fish size measurements. With FURUNO’s exclusive Stabilizer Technology, the FCV-38 independently stabilizes both TX and RX beams, ensuring accurate images and measurements even in rough sea conditions.

Accurate fish size measurements in easy-to-understand graph form: The FCV-38 measures fish size in selected areas and displays the data in clear, intuitive graphs. Split-beam technology improves the accuracy and reliability of these measurements, enabling operators to analyze the size, volume, and movement of targeted schools of fish. This helps users decide which fish to catch and avoid smaller or undesirable schools, contributing to the management and study of fisheries resources. Tools like [Auto Depth] and [Auto Area] adjust the measurement depth or area automatically, focusing on regions with higher fish concentrations.

Zoom modes: Zoom displays allow users to enlarge specific areas of the split-beam display for more detailed analysis of the sea floor and fish density. Available modes include bottom lock, bottom zoom, marker zoom, and bottom discrimination. The zoom range is adjustable between 2m and 200m, and users can modify the window size by dragging and dropping the frame.

Screenshots and echo data can be recorded and replayed: The processing unit can store up to 99 screenshots. Users can also replay echo displays at any time to compare fish sizes. External memory devices** can be used to expand storage, with the number of files dependent on device capacity. (*Note: Echoes stop when scroll-back mode is activated. **Optional supply required for external memory.)

Easy and quick operation: The FCV-38 features a trackball for intuitive operation. Frequently used menus like Range, Shift, Sensitivity, Image Feed, and Display Mode are accessible directly from the screen header. Other functions can be added to the customizable InstantAccess bar™ for quick access.

Scientific data output: The FCV-38 outputs scientific data in netCDF4 format, supporting fish stock assessment and similar applications. Compatible data analysis software is currently being developed by various institutions.

Calibration: Calibration is essential for acoustic resource surveys. The FCV-38 includes an improved calibration function with a user-friendly interface, allowing users to monitor detection zones, progress, and completion at a glance. This ensures accurate data acquisition for scientific and operational use.
